I recommend getting help tidying up your closets with Marie Kondo.
I’m mainly thinking about figuring out which clothes you want to keep and which ones you want to bring to the Ladies Fashion Swap & Sip, but the rules apply to general household organizing and to life in general. Start by going through your cloths and ask yourself 1) how often do I wear this and 2) do I get joy from wearing it.
This is the way to de-clutter your closets and just about everything else in your life, according to Japanese de-cluttering guru Marie Kondo. My favorite is her book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It opens with a conversation about how we think about clutter and how to think about what you really need and how some things make you feel your best. And that having too much extraneous stuff can actually affect your feelings of well being and even your overall success in life. Kondo also has a Netflix series from 2019 entitled Tiding Up with Marie Kondo, which is an easy and informative watch. This might be a good place to start deciding which clothes to bring to the next Swap.
Of course, buying clothes brings us a measure of joy and excitement when we first get them. So it’s natural that we shouldn't take it lightly when we decide to give them away. And there’s the fact that all of this extraneous stuff in our lives costs us money, which we may or may not have a lot of. But even millionaires often don’t find joy in the stuff they buy—witness that Cybertruck sitting out in the garage. De-cluttering and swapping may not only improve our feeling of well being, but save us some money in the process.
